DESIGN NOTE · YOUNGJUN PARK

Visibility starts with event quality

A design note on dependable logistics visibility. These are proposed design principles, not a report of a deployed implementation.

Preserve the source

Store event identifiers, source systems, event time, and ingestion time separately. A received timestamp alone cannot explain a delayed shipment update.

Expect duplicates and late arrivals

Make ingestion idempotent and define how late events can change a current view. Preserve the history so an operator can understand how a status was derived.

Separate observation from inference

Distinguish carrier-reported facts from calculated ETA and AI-generated interpretations. Show stale data explicitly instead of displaying a false live status.

Verify with realistic events

Evaluate duplicate delivery, missing coordinates, delayed arrival, conflicting sources, and replay after failure before relying on the view for operations.
